Volunteering with Prince George Pride Society

Want to get involved? Volunteers are indispensable to our operations. Whether you want to show support, give back to our community, build connections, or any other reason you may have; we can always use your help!

What's in it for you?

Satisfaction, of course! But that's not all.

Work a ticketed event, get in free.

Commit to two events, and as long as one of them falls during Pride Week, you'll be given the option to join the Society for only $10 for the year.

Members get voting rights, discounted event tickets, can join planning committees, or even the board.

Join our general volunteer pool below, or watch for specific volunteer positions as they arise!

Apply to volunteer with us!

General Volunteer Pool

We are always expanding our general volunteer pool. Registering for our volunteer pool means that you may be called upon for any available volunteer opportunities that fit your skills and abilities.

General volunteer opportunities may be:

- Ticket taking

- Decorating/event setup

- Event takedown/clean up

- Being an usher

- Manning tables

- Traffic control

and etc...

Specific volunteer roles will be posted here, and you may use our form to apply for those opportunities as they arise.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities will remain listed until such time as they are filled.

Your privacy is important to us. While we request the use of your first name and image for use on our website and/or social media, we will never do so without your consent.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please email us at info@pgpride.com.

Parade Traffic Control

Our largest volunteer requirement during Pride is traffic control at intersections. You will be responsible for making sure that pedestrians don't enter the parade route, or helping them cross if the procession has not yet arrived. Each volunteer will be paired with another volunteer or flagger, and will be given a brief training on the morning of the parade.

Parade Barricades/Signage

If you are physically fit and/or have access to a truck, this one might be for you. Barricades and signs for the parade will need to be picked up from the city on the day prior to the parade, put out the morning of the parade, and then picked up as the parade procession passes. A minimum two people are required for this.

First Aid

Many of our events require first aid attendants. You must have a first aid certificate to qualify, and be willing to volunteer a minimum of two hours of your time.

Security

If security is required for an event, it is typically not required that you be certified. You must be able and willing to keep an eye out for troublemakers, alert your supervisor of any issues that arise, and call the authorities if necessary. Being physically imposing is a bonus, but not required. You will never be asked to put yourself in harms way or to diffuse an unsafe situation.

Concession/Snacks

Some events will have concession available as a fundraiser for the Society. This will involve customer service and cash handling, including making change as required.

Event Setup/Decorating/Cleanup

Some events will only require setup, such as moving chairs and tables. Some larger events may require decoration of the venue as well, including things like setting up photo areas - experience with creating balloon arches is a bonus! If you are creative and enjoy beautifying an area, this is for you!

Cleanup following events is also required. This includes removing and packing up decorations, and cleaning the venue of all trash/recycling, for instance.

Admission

Most of our ticketed events are run through Eventbrite, which makes your job easy! You'll be responsible for scanning tickets and providing wristbands or stamps. Some events may be cash at the door, in which case you may need to handle cash, provide change, and use a phone/tablet to take card payments. Customer service and attention to detail is important here!

We live, work, and play on the occupied unceded ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. We acknowledge the ongoing consequences of colonization that disproportionately harm Indigenous queer, trans and Two-Spirit people.
